Graduate or Undergraduate Research Assistant (Deadline: May 12, 2017)

(Approximately 120 hours, June – September 2017)

We are looking for a highly motivated student to assist in the production of 70 short videos to support student plant-identification skills in FRST 201 Forest Ecology. Specific tasks will include:

  • Scouting filming locations for desired plant species in Pacific Spirit Park and Cypress Provincial Park
  • Writing and editing scripts and storyboards prior to video shoots
  • Assisting on location during video shoots (video production will be carried out by UBC Studios)
  • Flexible hours for scouting and script development, video shoot schedules will depend on availability of UBC Studios crew

Qualifications required

  • Excellent plant identification skills and a strong familiarity with the herbs, shrubs, ferns, and mosses of coastal British Columbia. (Undergraduate candidates must have completed FRST 200, 201, and 210)
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills, including high attention to detail
  • Ability to work in the field in rugged terrain and adverse weather conditions
  • No prior video production experience is required
  • Graduate students preferred, exceptional undergraduates will also be considered
