Update on Alex Fraser Research Forest Fires

Update on Alex Fraser Research Forest Fires

Over the past fortnight, our Research Forest staff and others having been working exceptionally hard and under extremely difficult conditions to control the wildfires that have been ignited by lightning in the Alex Fraser Research Forest. This has not only involved Alex Fraser Research Forest staff, but also staff from the Malcolm Knapp Research Forest. In addition, a number of contractors have been involved. The circumstances have been particularly tough for the Williams Lake staff, as some have been cut off from their homes by road closures, and there has been the constant threat of evacuation. That threat became reality on Saturday evening, when an evacuation order was issued for Williams Lake and surrounding areas. All our staff and associated crews have been evacuated and at the time of writing are headed to Prince George, as the fires have prevented them from moving south.
