Faculty Position in the Department of Wood Science (Deadline: October 15, 2017)

Applications are invited for a faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level (tenure-track) in Sustainable Business Management with an appointment in the Department of Wood Science, Faculty of Forestry at The University of British Columbia. A PhD degree and evidence of excellence in research, and the potential to become a very effective teacher of undergraduate students and mentor to graduate students are required for this professorial appointment. Preference will be given to energetic and visionary candidates who show promise or accomplishments in one or more of the following areas:

  • The evolving role of business in creating sustainable futures;
  • Transformative business strategies in the emerging global bioeconomy;
  • Sustainable business management within a natural resources context;
  • Strategic business practices and competition in the global forestry and bioeconomy sectors.

The Department of Wood Science includes 17 faculty members working across a range of disciplines. The Department runs the BSc (Wood Products Processing) program – the largest such program in North America – which fosters direct contacts with industry stakeholders through a vibrant co-op program. The Centre of Advanced Wood Processing through its extension and applied research programs offers extensive links with Canadian wood products manufacturers and opportunities to work with existing and emerging companies and organizations. The Faculty of Forestry, one of the largest such faculties in the world, includes over 60 faculty members and provides opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with world-class researchers. The Faculty offers a range of traditional research degrees and a growing suite of course-based masters programs that attract students from around the world. The forest industry remains one of the largest contributors to the British Columbia economy and a key exporter to global markets. The Canadian forest sector is seen as a world leader in enabling transformative change from the production of commodity goods to the provision of a variety of products and services that comprise the emerging bioeconomy.
