A full time Research Associate position is available with the Department of Wood Science at the University of British Columbia. The work concerns the biochemical aspects of the lignocellulose-to-ethanol/co-products bioconversion. The successful applicant will have a PhD in biochemistry, chemistry / wood chemistry or a related discipline and a minimum of five years post-doctoral experience in a related area. A strong background in the enzymology of cellulose/hemicellulose degrading enzymes, lignocellulose pretreatment and characterization as well as in monosaccharide fermentation is required. Additional requirements for this position include: 20+ publications in scientific journals, excellent communication and writing skills, ability to plan, supervise and carry on laboratory research work in collaboration with undergraduate, graduate students and co-workers. Industrial and proven international business-developing experience, management skills, and knowledge of foreign languages will be an asset.
