Urban Forest Innovative Solutions (UFIS) is pleased to announce the 2012 Soils and Urban Tree Conference, to be hosted at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Faculty of Forestry in Vancouver on May 3^rd and 4^th, 2012.

In an effort to halt diseases that are being introduced to our forests by pests, Genome British Columbia and Genome Canada are providing $4,250,116 for a new and innovative research project entitled “Genomics-Based Forest Health Diagnostics and Monitoring” which is being led by Dr. Richard Hamelin, a professor at UBC and senior research scientist at Natural Resources Canada.  

The Faculty of Forestry at the University of British Columbia is the new custodian of the BC Big Tree Registry: a record of large tree specimens native to BC, previously hosted by the BC Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations.
