The Forestry Mentoring Program was launched in the fall of 2008. The Program will be offered again in 2011-12.
The program matches undergraduate students from Forest Sciences, Natural Resources Conservation, Wood Products Processing and Forestry (Resources Management and Operations) with UBC Forestry alumni and other professionals. It is an excellent opportunity for students to network with professionals and for alumni to share their experience with junior and senior undergraduate students.
Why Participate?
The Mentoring Program helps students develop career self-management skills and create valuable links to their future career options. Both mentors and mentees will benefit from participating in this program.
Junior student mentees will:
-
Build connections within their faculty
-
Learn more about their field and potential career options
-
Confirm or re-evaluate ideas about their career goals
-
Develop their studies around their career path
- Network and connect with professionals in their field
Senior student mentees will also:
- Gain an enhanced understanding of the mentoring process (as they will be mentoring a younger student while simultaneously being mentored by a working professional)
Mentors will have the opportunity to:
-
Share life lessons and skills with their mentees
-
Form a partnership with the university
-
Develop their coaching skills
-
Expand their job pool
-
Recruit students for volunteer projects and assignments
