Congratulations Shawn Mansfield on being awarded a 2015 UBC Killam Research Prize
Shawn Mansfield has been honoured with a 2015 Killam Research Prize (senior category). This peer-nominated prize recognizes outstanding research and scholar contributions. It’s selected by UBC’s Faculty Research Award Committee, which spans arts and humanities, business, education, applied science, science and medicine.

Congratulations to Jack Saddler recipient of the Green Fuels Industry Award 2015
The award is presented to an individual for outstanding dedication to the advancement of renewable fuels in Canada. Dr. Saddler is a world leader in the conversion of forest residues into liquid fuels and chemicals. He sees the opportunity in Canada for biofuel and biorefinery technologies to bring about major changes to our sustainable energy future.

Scott Hinch named ‘Fellow of the Society’ by AFS

Joerg Bohlmann elected as Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada
Joerg Bohlmann is a world leader in the fields of plant and forestry genomics and in plant natural products biology. He is distinguished for his research on the genomics of defense and resistance mechanisms of conifers against insect pests and insect-associated fungal pathogens, as well as on plant terpenoid biochemistry.

Tom Sullivan awarded Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation’s 2014 Silver Award
The Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation (HCTF) presented its 2014 Silver Award to Dr Tom Sullivan at the recent BC Trappers Association AGM & Convention in 100 Mile House.

Dr Steve Mitchell, RPF, of UBC’s Faculty of Forestry is this year’s recipient of the ABCFP's Distinguished Forest Professional Award. This award is presented to an individual who has contributed a lifetime of work to the betterment of forestry in BC.

Sue Grayston, Maja Krzic and Cindy Prescott awarded prize in Quarry Life Award competition
The Quarry Life Award is an international research and education competition sponsored by Heidelberg Cement Group and aims to raise awareness of biodiversity in mining sites worldwide through sponsorship of projects to boost mining ecology and biodiversity.

Peter Marshall awarded CIF Presidential Award
The Canadian Institute of Forestry Presidential Award, in recognition of outstanding service and commitment to the Institute and exemplifying a devotion to, and passion for, the profession of forestry went to Dr Peter Marshall of Vancouver, British Columbia. The award appreciates the dedication that individuals provide and encourages individuals to contribute to the leadership, promotion, and understanding of the profession and the practice of forestry.

Cindy Prescott awarded honorary doctorate from the University of Helsinki
Professor Cindy Prescott has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Helsinki in recognition of her contributions to forest science and work with Finnish scientists and the Academy of Finland. Dr Prescott received the award during the solemn conferment ceremony in Helsinki in June 2014.
