How is the TCI Implemented?

The credits will be distributed by the NRVP. Following the completion of the student's placement and their successful registration at UBC, the NRVP will issue the tuition credits in the form of a third party sponsor's donation to the student's tuition fees. This is done through the UBC Tuition Payment Office. Proof of registration in the form of a receipt of the $100.00 registration deposit and confirmation from the registrar's office are necessary before the credits can be redeemed. The tuition credits will be deducted from that semester's tuition. The money will not be available for withdrawl as cash and will either be held for future tuition payments or be re-circulated for other positions. Tuition credits cannot be transferred into cash or into another student's account. The credits are not treated as earnings made at a job, but as a donation made by the NRVP to tuition payment, in response to volunteer work completed by the student with a participating organization. The credits are only good for payment towards tuition at UBC.
Insurance will be purchased for each participating student by the NRVP through the UBC Student Accident Insurance plan. Supervision will be the responsibility of the participating organization. They will fill out time sheets and send in a monthly summation of duties and hours to the NRVP.
Students can participate in the TCI by responding to the position postings on the NRVP website. These postings will be under the heading: Tuition Credit Initiative Current Positions. The process from there is much the same as applying for a job. Students will be asked to submit resumes and cover letters. Interviews will be held by the participating organizations.
