The Tuition Credit Initiative Placement Agreement

The Participating Organization agrees:

  1. to provide the student with skill development in accordance with the agreed upon position;
  2. to provide appropriate supervision and to notify the Natural Resources Volunteers Program (NRVP) of any changes in supervisors;
  3. to verify honest records of the hours and duties of the volunteer on the timesheets;
  4. to provide the volunteer with any necessary training over and above the qualifications that were outlined in the job description.  This includes work specific safety training;
  5. to not allow a student to perform any duties unless the student has all necessary safety equipment and training required for the task to be performed;
  6. to immediately report any occurrences of injury to the NRVP;
  7. to carry adequate insurance on all private staff vehicles for the purpose of transporting participants if necessary;
  8. to carry current General Comprehensive Liability Insurance;
  9. to accept responsibility for all costs associated with the project.

 

The Student Agrees: 

  1. to perform the duties assigned by the participating organization in accordance with the approved position description and times agreed upon;
  2. to comply with the participating organization's rules and all applicable safety regulations;
  3. to abide by all confidentiality policies as outlined by the organization;
  4. to complete the number of hours as per the agreement;
  5. that in order to receive any tuition credits, the placement must already be completed in its entirety;
  6. to keep honest records of hours and duties and report these on a monthly timesheet for the supervisor;
  7. to contact to the NRVP Coordinator each month, even if there are no hours to report.
  8. to contact the participating organization to notify them of absences or illness;
  9. to be under the supervision of the participating organization;
  10. that they understand the criteria for use and redemption of tuition credits;
  11. to write about the experience, once its finished, for publication in the NRVP newsletter.
  12. to ensure that, if you use your vehicle for your placement, you have the correct insurance coverage.  
  13. to read and sign an assumption of risk waiver form

 

The Volunteering Program Agrees:

  1. that we will be responsible for supporting the student and the participating organization in seeing the placement to completion and responding in a timely and effective manner when our assistance is required;
  2. to review with the student all project policies, eligibility guidelines, and regulations concerning the use and redemption of tuition credits;
  3. to ensure that all participating students meet the eligibility guidelines and are not selected through favouritism;
  4. to ensure that the participating organizations have met all of the criteria outlined in the Tuition Credit Initiative Information package;
  5. to monitor the placement through review of monthly timesheets, phone calls and a site visit to ensure that things are going according to the agreed upon position;
  6. to provide students with insurance coverage through the University of British Columbia (UBC) Student Accident  Insurance Plan;
  7. that we will not be responsible for costs associated with the placement, they will be the sole responsibility of the participating organization.
