FOREST
MODELING WEBSITES
|
|
(1) FORRx
Consulting Inc.
FORRx Consulting is an innovative Canadian
company specializing in ecosystem modeling and decision support
systems. It is a spin-off company created by Dr. Clive Welham and
Dr. Brad Seely to apply our scientific-based models in real forest
management environments.
|
|
(2) Register
of Ecological Models
Meta-database for existing mathematical models in ecology. Developed
by the University of Kassel and the German National Research Centre
for Enviornment and Health.
|
|
(3) BC
MoF Growth and Yield Modelling
BC Ministry of Forests growth and yield predictions within
the areas of silviculture, inventory, planning, and timber supply
analysis.
|
(4) JABOWA
First successful computer simulation of forests developed in 1970
by Daniel Botkin, James Janak, and James Wallis. Known as a
"GAP" model, it simulates individual trees on small plots. |
(5) SORTIE
Mechanistic, spatially explicit, stochastic model of the forests of
the Northeastern United States. Developed by Steve Pacala and
Douglas Deutschman at Princeton University. |
|
(6) SORTIE
BC and SORTICE ND
Spatially explicit model of the dynamics of interior cedar hemlock
forests of northern BC. Developed by Dave Coates, Phil Lepage, and
Elaine Wright of the BC Ministry of Forests. SORTIE-ND website also
provides info on the Date Creek experiment
|
(7) CENTURY
General model of plant - soil nutrient cycling used to simulate carbon
and nutrient dynamics in different ecosystems. Developed by Dr. William
Parton at Colorado State University. |
(8) Prognosis
BC Forest Modelling
Work to adapt the US Forest Service model, Forest Vegetation Simulator,
for use in southeastern BC. Has the ability to model multi-age, multi-species
stands. |
|
(9) TRIPLEX
Hybrid stand level model of forest growth and carbon and nitrogen
dynamics for even or uneven aged forests. Designed to be used for
making forest management decisions (e.g., growth and yield), quantifying
forest carbon budgets, and assessing the long and short-term effects
of climate change. Developed by Changhui Peng.
|
(10) 3-PG
FOREST MODEL
Calculates above and below-ground net primary production based on
established biophysical relationships and constants. Developed by
Nicholas Coop and Richard Waring . |
(11) ForestWerks
Model
Watershed processes and forest management simulation that tracks
cumulative watershed effects to predict relative impacts of forest
management on fish habitat in small and intermediate streams in coastal
British Columbia. Developed by Frank Heinzelmann. |
|
(12) 2007
North American Forest Ecology Workshop
From Science to Stewardship - Knowing, Understanding and Applying.
The 2007 NAFEW took place in Vancouver, BC, Canada, from June 18
to 22, 2007, and addressed boreal, temperate and tropical forests
in North America.
|
|
(13) UBC
Forest Modelling Conference (August 12-17, 2001)
Forest modelling for ecosystem management, forest certification,
and sustainable management. Sessions include recent model developments
and efforts at all levels (tree, stand, landscape). Order the proceedings.
|
|
(13) DPI
territorial
DPI Territorial is a Mexican-Canadian innovative consulting company
in which Dr. Juan A. Blanco is a collaborator. It is specialized
in applying the socio-economic and ecological knowledge on the desing
of sustainable management and development plans.
