Course Bulletins

WELCOME to the 2007 FRST 308 Forest Entomology class.

Lectures and Laboratory periods are listed below. Laboratories are important hands-on opportunities where you will see your materials "life-size".  An extensive series of displays have been developed over the years and I hope you enjoy seeing these forest insects at close quarters.  Typically in the forest we see the damage and only ocassionally do we see the villain!

Major References:

1.  The course web site, FETCH21 at: http://www.forestry.ubc.ca/fetch21/fetch21/FETCH21.html.  You will find many interesting pages on this web site including a colour illustrated version of your lab manual with references to other current web pages as well as your textbook.

2.  The recommended text is: Edmonds, R.L., Agee, J.K., and Gara, R.I. 2000 (revised 2005).  Forest Health and Protection.  Waveland Press ISBN: 1-57766-396-9. This updated and more reasonably priced paperback version will also be of use in Pathology and Fire.

3. I also recommend Field Guide to Forest Damage in British Columbia by Henigman et al. 2001. Joint Publication 17. ISBN: 0-7726-4416-0. This field guide is also available on line.

4. A new edition of the UBC Forestry Handbook is now available. I recommend the chapter on Forest Pest Management to you. A pdf file is available or you can read the chapter on this web site.
