Forficula auricularia (Forficulidae)
European earwig
Adults:
Large forcep-like cerci. 4 wings - front wings are short, leathery and veinless, hind wings are membranous and folded under forewings.
Larvae:
Simple metamorphosis with succeeding nymphal stages until adult.
Damage:
Both adults and nymphs are herbivorous (= defoliators) and feed above ground during the night.
Principal Hosts:
Many species of coniferous seedlings,
especially in nurseries.
Economic Importance:
At present, this insect is of
minor significance.
