About FETCH21The idea for this Forest Entomology Textbook CHallenge for the 21st Century was generated in response to a challenge from Doug Allen from Syracuse University. He invited me to present a paper at the Second North American Insect Work Conference in San Antonio, TX in 1996 on the topic of trends of forest entomology education in the 21st century. At first this site contained mainly links to web sites developed by colleagues to describe their research or main interest areas. After completing the page on the Douglas-fir Tussock Moth I realized I had the opportunity to mount my slides for viewing outside of classes. The natural follow up to that was to mount an enriched hypertext version of the laboratory manual which is linked to relevant source material sites. The original layout was authored by Alden Chan. The site was later updated
with a new look by Gordon Nienaber who also created the hypertext lab manual
and quiz sections. FETCH21 was subsequently updated by Adrian Behennah. Funding for the development of this site was provided by the Teaching, Learning Enhancement Fund of the University of British Columbia, and by the Kathleen and Sheldon Rothwell Forest Research Fund.
