Schaffer Lecture – October 20, 2010
Please join us on October 20th for the Leslie L. Schaffer Lectureship in Forest Sciences. This year’s speaker is Dr. Peter Ashton, a Charles Bullard Research Professor of Forestry at Harvard University and a Faculty Fellow at the Center for International Development, Harvard University, who will be speaking on the costs and benefits of biodiversity conservation in the tropical rain forest.
The lecture will take place at 5:15 pm in room 1005 of the UBC Forest Sciences Centre located at 2424 Main Mall, Vancouver. Reception to follow in the Atrium.

CIF Annual Chili Cook-off – November 10, 2010
Come out for an evening of hot chili and cold drinks to meet our current students and learn more about the Canadian Institute of Forestry. This fun evening kicks off at 5:00 pm in the Atrium of the Forest Sciences Centre, 2424 Main Mall, Vancouver, BC.
$5 for Forestry students
$7 for CIF members
$10 for non-members
Price includes chili, bun and one beverage
$2 for an additional beer or $3 for a glass of wine
Chili cooks also wanted! We need CIF members to volunteer to cook their favourite chili recipes. You will be reimbursed for the cost of the ingredients ($50 maximum) and prizes will be awarded for the best batches of chili.
