Using Permanent Sample Plot data from the Kamloops, Cariboo and Nelson Forest Regions, the height growth models have been calibrated for use in the Interior Cedar-Hemlock (ICH) and Interior Douglas-fir (IDF) biogeoclimatic zones.

The model has been calibrated for nine coniferous species, and extended to include two hardwoods.

The models predict 10-year height increment as a function of tree and site attributes. However, no explicit competition or density measures were used; instead, 10-year inside bark diameter growth was used as a measure of tree vigour, and is thought to capture the effects of density and competition. The advantage of this approach is that it allowed the full use of all PSP data, despite historical changes in the minimum diameter measured.
