The Gavin
Lake Forest Education Society (GLFES) promotes outdoor education
and an understanding of the complexities of life in the forests
around us. It provides a first-class outdoor education facility
for elementary school children in the Cariboo-Chilcotin. All grade
6 chilidren in this region get the opportunity to attend a 3-day
sponsored, curriculum-based adventure every year.
The GLFES
was started in 1996 and has had an incredible record of success,
averaging 2000 visitors each year. The Gavin Lake Camp can host
up to 100 people overnight in its year-round, waterfront facilities.
A beach, canoe dock, fire pit, playing field and sauna can be enjoyed,
and hiking, biking (including a pump track) and ski trails surround
the camp.
Most of our school programs are developed
for grade 6 students. In this way, we can gear all of our
education material to one grade level and, over the years, reach
the greatest number of children possible from two different school
districts and three local communities. Programs alternate from year
to year so as to accommodate repeat visitors from split classes
common in our region.
There are reduced rates for youth and non-profit groups for camp
rental. Weddings and family
reunions are welcome too. Be sure to book early in the year or even
the year before!
