SIMFOR and the
Centre for Applied Conservation Research (CACR) have been
involved in a number of research projects throughout British
Columbia. Projects have largely focused on timber harvesting
policy and its potential effects on different aspects of biodiversity.
The use of a Criterion and Indicator (C&I) approach has
been introduced to recent SIMFOR projects. The C&I approach
differs from other management strategies as it is explicitly
objective-based, utilizing clearly defined management criteria
(objectives) and indicators. Profiled here is an example of
such a project - a habitat analysis for a research initiative
between the University of British Columbia and the Arrow
Innovative Forest Practices Agreement (IFPA). Also given
is a list of publications and links to present and past SIMFOR
projects.
